Running for Parkinson's

December 19, 2020 - January 17, 2021

Who am I?

Hello everyone, my name is Danielle Groenendijk and I am hoping to raise awareness to Parkinson's in Canada. My grandpa was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years ago and I have seen the effect this disease can have on the individual, family and friends. Please consider joining me in my journey to make a difference in the lives of those affected with Parkinson's disease.

250km in
 30 days!

I am going to run 250km in 30 days. A large part of Parkinson's disease is difficultly with movement which can make everyday activities harder. Physical activity is also  important for improving motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's. By running 250km in 30 days, I hope to bring awareness to Parkinson's and the struggles that come along with it. My fundraising goal is $7,500, that means that 1km=$30. Please consider donating to my personal fundraising page for Parkinson Canada.

About my Grandpa

My grandparents have always been a big part of my life. My favourite childhood memories consist of going to visit them with my family. My grandpa has always wanted what is best for us and is willing to help us in whatever way we need. He is full of love, joy, happiness, wisdom and humour. My grandpa also has a lot of passion and hard work. When his motor symptoms of Parkinson's continued to increase it was very frustrating for him as he could not complete tasks by himself which he used to be able to. My grandparents always come to my sports games and cheer me on. I think a loud voice runs on my grandpa's side of the family because many times when I was playing I could hear him cheering my team on. Grandpa will always make sure we are doing good and is a great listener (except I think he can tune Grandma out sometimes :P). My grandpa is also a strong follower of Christ and has been a great inspiration for me. Here is the chorus to one of my grandpa's favourite songs:
"T
hen sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art! "
This song is a great reminder of how great God is in all situations even if it does not seem that way. No matter the state my grandpa has been in, he has always reminded us how much God loves us and to not forget it!
